This guided self drive adventure takes you deep into the heart of the Kalahari covering an area of 4,000,000 hectares, adjoining the Kalahari Trans-Frontier Park. This trip covers the best the Kalahari has to offer and is completely wild and exclusive with no fences, few roads and spectacular scenery. Access to this pristine bushveld concession has been limited to three tour operators, so not only will there be no one else there, but you will also be one of a handful of people who have been privileged to experience the solitude and remoteness whilst camping under a million stars and enjoying magnificent sunsets and sunrises.
We will meet guests at the Bray border post at 14.00 hrs on Sunday. We will have made arrangements to refuel in Bray before driving to Cornwall Lodge where will spend the first night. Spend the evening around a communal campfire after setting up camp in the camp site adjoining the Lodge.

| Day 1 - Monday |
After breakfast we will leave Cornwall Lodge to the concession area. Once we leave the tar road, we will deflate our tyres and engage four wheel drive for the start of an unforgettable trip. Accompanying us will be Benjamin “Mr. Man” Springbok, a master Bushman tracker whose knowledge of nature, animals and the area we will be travelling in, will leave you spellbound. He has the amazing ability of being able to recognize spoor from a moving vehicle at 50 km/h. We will travel for approximately 6 hours before reaching Heinie’s Camp where we have lunch. From here we move on to Jack’s Pan where we will spend our first night in the bush at a magic camp overlooking the pan.
|
Day 2 – Tuesday |
We will make an early start for a hard drive to Hukuntsi where we will have the opportunity of refueling our vehicles at a remote garage, Africa style. South African Rand’s are accepted but do not expect the official bank rate. After brunch we push on through magic grass plains with an abundance of Kameeldoring trees, to Zutshwa where we will visit a typical Bushmen village. Here we will be entertained to a traditional dance as well as being able to support the locals with purchases of mementos from the craft market. We leave the village on our way to Kaa Pan for our second night right on the edge of a huge pan.
|
Day 3 – Wednesday |
After breakfast, we will if necessary, be able to refill our water containers at the nearby Kaa Gate. We will then leave Kaa and travel on our way to Towe pan where we will tackle the highest dune in the area. On cresting the dune, we will be rewarded with a spectacular view of the vastness of the Kalahari. We will stop for lunch along the way to PP1 pan where we set up camp for the night. We will have sufficient time to explore the area around PP 1 pan and enjoy the magic of the Kalahari.
|
Day 4 – Thursday |
After a leisurely breakfast, we will take a comfortable drive to Peach Pan where we will set up camp under some shady trees overlooking the massive pan for our last night in the Kalahari. We will once again have time to explore the area in the nearby vicinity. Later on in the afternoon we will spend some time with “Mr. Man” who will share some of his vast bush craft knowledge with us.
|
Day 5 – Friday |
We leave Peach pan and proceed through the bush until we reach the cut line for the long drive back to the Lodge. This will feel like a highway compared to the roads we have been driving for the last 3 days. We will stop for brunch along the way and should arrive back at Cornwall in the early afternoon where we will enjoy the comfort of luxury en-suite tents or an en-suite chalet for the night’s accommodation. There is also a lovely pool, a tennis court, a pool table and a magic pub area with honesty bar at your disposal, to while away the rest of the afternoon. This evening we will be the guests of Jannie and Heather Strumpher, owners of the Cornwall Lodge, for a lovely supper. The rest of the evening will be spent on reflecting on what will have been an unforgettable experience.
